Striving For a More Natural Lifestyle-My Story
Feb 19, 2024Embracing a natural lifestyle doesn’t have to be this big intimidating experience. You can start simple and add more and more natural things as time goes on. You don’t need a 10-acre garden with 75 chicken and bake your own bread to be natural. Would all that be pretty amazing? Yes, but seriously not everyone has the time, energy, or room for all of that.
Let me take you on a little journey.
My natural lifestyle really began over 8 years ago after I had my daughter. I wanted to provide a better environment for her than what I had always known. I didn’t throw out everything toxic in my house and start over... to me that would have been wasteful and dumb. Nope, I started slow.
First, when I was running out of my store-bought laundry detergent, I decided to try 152 different DIY laundry detergent recipes. Once I figured out which one was actually the best for us and worked well, I moved on. Then I took on my next task-hand soap and so on.
I slowly moved through my household items as I learned more and more about ingredients (half of which I still can’t pronounce but I can recognize them-which is a win for me!). I worked through the house then started to focus on what we were eating. I tried to stop buying processed snacks and to make some things on my own.
Now, I just want to point out I am not the best baker… my kids would tell you to not eat anything I baked! It’s okay you can laugh, I do! But I am a really good cook! So, buying snacks with less dyes and harmful ingredients ended up working better for me than making them myself. And that’s okay! There’s no rule saying that you have to make everything from scratch. Again, not many people have the time or energy for that. If you do that’s awesome! Send me some goodies when you can- I LOVE chocolate! (Side note: typically, Aldi brand foods/snacks don’t have dyes in them)
Okay back to what I was saying. I started to slowly make these lifestyle changes over the years. I will be the first to admit that I did cave more times than I’d like to admit and buy the things that were less healthy for us. But you know what? I’m not going to beat myself up over it. Sometimes convenience is really nice and I won’t lie… the things that are normally not good for you end up tasting the best. Hello ice cream.
It’s not always easy trying to live a more natural lifestyle when we live in such a toxic world.
I mean I used to LOVE Bath and Body Work’s wallflower plug ins- they smell soooo good! But they’re also really bad for your hormones and your health. So, guess what went in the trash? Yep, you guess it. My wallflowers. I cried a little on the inside that day. But once I moved past the truth of it, I discovered essential oils and fell in love with them.
Now when people come to our house or in my car, they always complement me as to how good it smells- which I thought wouldn’t ever happen when I first switched to essential oils. So again, I’ll take that as a win. It’s natural, better for our health, and they last way longer.
It's all these little changes that really make a big impact in your life.
You may not even notice how many things you have in your house, your car, your office, etc- that are really not that great for you. You don’t need to go throw everything out. Just start slowly swapping items out as you finish up the stuff you currently have. Your body will thank you.
It took a little bit for me to really start noticing the difference these changes made for myself but looking back they really made a big difference and still do to this day!
Once I worked through the house and food I started diving into more natural remedies for my health. After being dismissed from the doctors I REALLY went head first into the herbal medicine world. And let me tell you- that was the ultimate GAME CHANGER!
I’ll never go back to the way I relied on modern medicine. Nope. Nope not after everything I’ve learned about your health and herbs and the way I was treated by doctors. It is now a hard NO for me.
I believe there is a place and time for modern medicine (ie: heart attacks, missing limbs, etc.) but for 98% of the things that come up in my life and my families lives I’m able to catch the symptoms before it becomes a bigger issue. I then find the right herbs to treat the root cause and heal it before it has time to fester and becomes a bigger issue.
Conclusion
All in all, what I’m trying to say is that if you are curious about learning to live more naturally or you’re already on that journey. Don’t give up when it gets tough. There are so many people out there just like you that are learning and growing every day. Embrace the journey.
